The demise of ISDN and the future impact on your business!

Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN) is fast becoming a technology of the past with the service set to be phased out completely by 2025 and replaced by Session Initiation Protocol (SIP), an Internet Protocol (IP) based service delivered over broadband and/or leased live circuits. The 1980’s ISDN will be no longer available from this year 2020. So how will this affect your business?

We are no longer in the 1980’s era where the world wide web was just being invented and the mobile analogue telephony was just finding its way to the market and any urgent documents that needed to be sent were done by fax only.

There have been many changes in the business world since the launch of ISDN:

  • Remote and flexible working, have exploded more recently and is set to increase

  • Many employees use both mobile and fixed line telephony services during the workday which was not the case before

  • Now there is huge increase and focus on service, efficiency, business continuity and disaster recovery

  • IP-based services are commonly used by many organisations and those in the know are acting fast

In many ways, using ISDN is like driving an old classic car. The classic car represented the latest technology at the time when it was launched. These days it’s not as efficient as its modern counterparts. The cost to keep the old model running is much higher than a modern alternative therefore, reliability is of great concern and issues can take days to resolve. Although it is a classic, sticking with the old model will no longer meet your basic requirements as technology advances and speeds improve. So, don’t be left behind!

Why drive an old standard classic car when you can upgrade to a new sports model that is custom built to fit your needs!

ISDN is in the past, be present and plan your future!!

  1. ISDN lacks the agility needed to meet the requirements of today’s fast-moving consumers.

  2. The management of multiple offices can be time consuming, costly and maintaining consistency of service across offices is often difficult.

  3. It is often expensive and slow to scale up.

  4. It is often a requirement to provide substantial capex investment for ISDN-based telephony systems.

  5. Disaster Recovery is slow.

  6. It is very limited in that it cannot be combined with modern technologies like Ethernet to enhance voice services.

Next generation technology SIP trunking is fast becoming the ISDN replacement solution of choice, as it can bring many benefits to your business, including:

  • Superior service features for greater efficiency gains

  • Increased flexibility to meet the changing needs of your workforce

  • Enhanced scalability to help drive business growth

  • Value-Added quality of service for customers

  • Fast deployment

  • Retain your existing number

  • Enables hosted call recording functionality

  • Incredibly robust and resilient with built-in disaster recovery provisions

  • Reduced cost with significant savings to be made on call costs and line rental

  • Increased visibility of performance metrics to improve productivity and overall business performance

  • Technologies like SIP trunking offer a more flexible, cost-effective telecoms solution for your organisation to help you achieve your business goals.

That is why it’s time to add ISDN replacement to your business agenda!

  • Carry out an audit of your telecoms system – when was the last time you looked to upgrade?

  • Find out how much your ISDN lines and on-site PBX system is costing you – how much could you save?

  • How resilient is your existing telecoms provision – how much could downtime cost your business?

As proud partners of Gamma we are pleased to be able to provide a special offer which is based on the demand-led Gigabit Broadband Voucher Scheme (GBVS).

A government initiative to help businesses and homes gain access to a 1Gbps capable ISP connection, where applicants are offered up to £2,500 to help businesses and homes gain access to a 1Gbps capable broadband connection including homes which are limited to £500.

IDT Academy

Cybercriminals target end users it is the best way for them to infiltrate your company!

Therefore, ongoing cybersecurity education and training for end users is a MUST for businesses to stay secure.

What is security awareness training?

Security awareness training is an education process that teaches employees about cybersecurity, IT best practices, and even regulatory compliance.

A comprehensive security awareness program for employees should train them on a variety of courses ranging from, understanding cybersecurity; Phishing awareness; Understanding Malware; Physical Security; Email Security; Ransomware and Cybercrime; Working safely and securely; password security and many more…

These may include how to avoid phishing and other types of social engineering cyberattacks, spot potential malware behaviours, report possible security threats, follow company policies and best practices, and adhere to any applicable data privacy and compliance regulations (GDPR, PCI DSS, HIPAA, etc.)

Did you know

90% of successful network breaches were caused by user error

Why do we need security awareness training?

Although businesses may feel their employees wouldn’t be fooled by something like a phishing scam, cybercriminals still use this attack method because it continues to be successful. In fact, it was revealed that 93% of successful security breaches start with phishing.

With regular training for employees that includes phishing simulations, courses on best practices, and data protection and compliance training, businesses can significantly reduce risk, decrease infections and related help desk costs, protect their reputation by experiencing fewer breaches, and secure their overall cybersecurity investment.
